Sites Southwest was commissioned to provide the City of Albuquerque Planning Department with a project to create a gateway to the Central Avenue corridor from the Rio Grande to Coors Road. The gateway was designed in collaboration with Westside neighborhoods and was developed through a nine-month process of public interaction. The results, designed by our firm and Robert Randazzo, the neon artist, are two neon structures, much like those built in the Nob Hill District to the east, but with a Route 66 theme. One is located at the Bosque near the river and the second, near Coors Road. These attractive concrete and neon gateway pieces will invigorate the district.
