Tiguex Park has been an integral part of Albuquerque since its construction in the 1970's. The park lies central to the City's Museum District, directly adjacent to Old Town to the west and to the Plaza Vieja Neighborhood to the south. Tiguex Park serves the adjacent residences as a neighborhood park with playgrounds, ball courts and recreation fields. It provides Old Town and the Museum District with an outdoor respite for shoppers and museum visitors. It also serves the greater Albuquerque metropolitan area as an important focal point and gathering place for celebrations, performances, and other special events.
