Sites Southwest worked with the former Westland Development Company to developed a long-term community Master Plan for its holdings in the Southwest Area of Bernalillo County. The basis for the Master Plan was a greenway system incorporating the existing drainage system and the Comprehensive Plan's framework for Centers and Corridors. The Master Plan was assembled through a series of environmental, socio-cultural and infrastructural overlays in coordination with local agencies, stakeholders and neighborhood groups. The Master Plan emphasized innovative development strategies for creating areas of density to support transit and economic development, while conserving water through water harvesting in existing closed basin playas and using reclaimed water for irrigation of median and open space landscape features. A framework for providing necessary infrastructure, schools, parks and other community facilities was a key component of the Master Plan.
