Albuquerque’s Nob Hill and Highland neighborhoods contain historic residential areas and the city’s first commercial center along old Route 66. Sites Southwest was charged with updating and expanding a 20-year old Sector Development Plan. The project also called for incorporating concepts from a recently adopted Metropolitan Redevelopment Area plan.
The area in question transitions from one of the city’s most vibrant commercial districts to a deteriorating commercial strip. Neighbors were concerned about protecting established residential neighborhoods while supporting commercial development; providing for transitions between commercial and residential areas; accommodating mixed uses along commercial streets and supporting the area’s heavy pedestrian, bicycle and transit traffic.
The plan incorporates capital improvements and special zoning, along with recommended city policy for the future development of this part of Albuquerque.
