In 2011, Los Alamos County Commissioned Sites Southwest to develop plans for the rehabilitation of Ashley Pond Park, a long time central park and previous important amenity for the Los Alamos Ranch School. As apart of the Fuller Lodge Historic District, the park contributes to the city of Los Alamos and New Mexico in immeasurable ways.
The project has two primary purposes: to make the park walkway and its linkages to the Fuller Lodge Historic District accessible, and to improve the poor lake water quality caused by eutrophication. With an eye to its historical significance, the redevelopment plans for Ashley Pond Park include rehabilitation of the bulkheads, sidewalks, lake engineering systems, walkways to the street and parking levels and overall redesign of the landscaping nearest the lake itself.
