Sites Southwest was part of the design team for a new high school in Rio Rancho, New Mexico serving 2500 students, faculty and staff. The overall goal was to make the school a LEED Silver certified building incorporating green techniques.
The undeveloped existing site allowed for a multitude of sustainable opportunities. The team developed ideas for collecting roof runoff and distributing it throughout the native landscape, storing surface runoff in vegetated swales in parking lot medians and using renewable, recyclable materials. Green concept educational materials were also incorporated into the classroom.
Athletic fields with trees, shades structures, dugouts and bermed seating make up the sports complex.
