Sites Southwest returned to downtown Las Cruces to serve as Landscape Architects for the new City Hall. This project was an extension of Sites’ previous revitalization and master plan for the city’s Main Street area.
The site design includes a large entry plaza with unique landscape elements to complement the architecture. The plaza features shade trees and colorful ground level plantings reminiscent of local agriculture. Other elements play on the historic acequia that runs under the site. Parking lots harvest water into planting areas or via porous paving techniques. Native and low water use plants tie into Sites’ previous downtown Main Street designs. Materials and colors reflect local traditions. An art wall transitions from the grounds into a nearby neighborhood along a common streetscape.
