When arriving by plane to Albuquerque, visitors' first and last impressions of our city are formed by the Sunport Roadway landscape. The landscape renovation provides visitors with a beautiful sample of New Mexican landscape materials, improves the regional image year-round, and reduces water consumption by more than half of previous usage. Plantings of flowering shrubs and evergreens are surrounded by stone retaining walls and landscape edging. Within the median, spray-irrigated turfgrass was replaced with native yuccas, a water-harvesting swale, and colorful perennial plantings. The project also included the creation of a new L.E.D. sign to greet and inform visitors, as well as four large scale Native American design pots illuminated by solar lighting. Sections of this project removed even more turfgrass from the Loop Road, reducing water waste. Sites’s extensive construction administration services ensured the successful completion of this project.
