Manzanita Ridge Neighborhood Park
Date
2024
Location
Bend Oregon
Client
Bend, Oregon Parks and Recreation District
Sites, Ashley Vance Engineering, and S&F Land Services worked alongside Bend Parks and Recreation District staff throughout the entire public engagement and design lifecycle for Manzanita Ridge Park. The initial public meeting revealed a divide between community members, who preferred a more natural open space park, and those who preferred a park with a playground and amenities where their families could play and picnic. To meet the needs of the Shevlin West Neighborhood and adjacent communities, the team facilitated a robust public process that included online surveys, pop up events, and public meetings led by Bend Parks and Recreation District. After presenting three potential concepts and obtaining public and stakeholder feedback, the team refined a final, preferred concept. The team took the concepts into construction documentation and eventually provided construction oversight. Ultimately, Manzanita Ridge Park, currently under construction, will be a harmonious marriage of a traditional neighborhood park with — a grassy area, playground, and nature play — with natural open space that features trails and preserved, high desert native landscape.
