Planner 2

Sites Southwest is seeking a motivated community planner for our Albuquerque, New Mexico office. The position will have the opportunity to lead and contribute to meaningful community and design-related planning projects related to housing, outdoor recreation, economic development, land development, and comprehensive planning strategies. The Planner 2 position requires a candidate who is a great communicator with strong organizational skills and a master’s degree in a planning-related field. This position will emphasize mapping and GIS analysis along with general planning responsibilities. Senior Landscape Architect / Project Manager 

Sites Southwest is seeking an experienced Landscape Architect interested in project management and leadership to join our office in Albuquerque, New Mexico (other offices include El Paso, Texas, and the high desert of Bend Oregon). For 26 years, our firm has focused on sustainable and equitable design through community-oriented planning and landscape architecture. Our goal is to help our client communities thrive, building on an understanding of local assets and opportunities to provide creative solutions to complex community and environmental design challenges. 

This full time position will include managing multi-disciplinary projects involving mixed uses, parks, trails, streetscapes, open space, agricultural and other project typologies. Responsibilities include working with clients to develop preliminary and conceptual designs, overseeing the development of designs, and preparing construction documents and technical specifications/drawings. The position will also assist with writing, cost estimating, fieldwork, and may include some construction administration. Applicants should be able to demonstrate leadership, work cooperatively, delegate tasks to landscape designers/architects and planners, and find opportunities to help team members grow in their related positions. Versatility and willingness to take on a variety of tasks within projects is essential and some travel will be required. 

The ideal candidate will be a licensed landscape architect with six-to-eight years of professional experience, a deep understanding of the professional practice, and interest in professional growth. It will be important to have a good understanding of digital and hand-drawn graphics and experience with AutoCAD, GIS, LandFX, the Adobe Suite, Sketch-Up, and/or other graphics programs. Applicants should also have a strong interest in sustainable and equitable design in southwestern and high-desert environments. Candidates will ideally have knowledge and experience with office management, finances, and marketing, and an interest in company leadership and business development.

PLANNING INTERN

SITES SOUTHWEST is a community-oriented planning and landscape architecture firm with offices in Albuquerque, New Mexico; El Paso, Texas; and Bend, Oregon. Working primarily with public clients throughout New Mexico, our planning team works to re-envision the built environment. Our goal is to help our client communities thrive – always considering the unique social, environmental, and economic complexities of a place. Through our valuation of local assets, thorough research, and thoughtful facilitation, we create effective and sustainable solutions to challenging community problems.

We are looking for a Planning Intern who will work with the broader planning and landscape architecture team on current projects. These include downtown redevelopment, comprehensive planning, trails and open space planning, parks plans, and affordable housing plans. The position requires a candidate who is a strong writer, communicator and open to learning new skills. This position will emphasize mapping and GIS analysis along with general planning responsibilities.

Essential Job Duties:

 

  •  Assist with preparation of planning documents, including:

o    Primary research including community engagement, interviews, and surveys
o    Demographic and socioeconomic data analysis and synthesis
o    Writing sections of plan documents
o    Copy-editing plan documents
o    Creation of graphically compelling and legible maps and analyses using ArcGIS

 

  • Assist with creation of public engagement materials for site visits, public meetings, focus groups and community workshops

  • Communicate effectively and consistently with co-workers, team partners, clients, and the public

  • Responsible for timely completion of projects and billable hours

 

We offer a flexible schedule with a hybrid work environment, tailored to suit our employees and business needs. Both part-time and full-time opportunities are available. Employees work on collaborative teams both virtually and in our beautiful urban office near downtown Albuquerque, on Route 66. In-state travel opportunities exist, allowing for on-site engagement with projects and clients. These engagements can flex from standard hours, but we aim to coordinate in advance and provide coverage across the team.
