CNM Student Resource Center Plaza
The Central New Mexico Community College campus in Albuquerque, near Coal and University, has never had a central plaza. CNM commissioned Sites Southwest to transform a bed of gray gravel in the heart of campus into a gathering space and plaza that could be used for events, casual gatherings, and other activities. The mall will be surrounded by custom-designed shade structures in a circular pattern, with one of them (the largest and tallest) serving as a stage. Unlike many shade structures, these were designed to screen the sun from above as well as from the sides, providing a more comfortable space for students to use throughout the day. They are also intended to collect water from structure roofs and distribute it via a subsurface distribution system fed by drainage and a bioswale. This massive undertaking opened in the fall of 2022.
