Early Career Planner
SITES SOUTHWEST is a community-oriented landscape architecture and planning firm with a rich history serving primarily public clients throughout the Southwest. Our primary office where most of our employees are located is in Albuquerque, NM, but we also have projects and employees across the Southwest and are expanding into the high desert regions of the Pacific Northwest in Bend, Oregon. We use our unique breadth of skills across planning, landscape architecture, and urban design disciplines to re-envision the built environment, fashioning memorable, functional sites.
We are looking for an early career Planner who will work collaboratively with the broader Planning team on meaningful community and design-related planning projects including housing, outdoor recreation, economic development, land development, and comprehensive planning strategies. The position requires a candidate who is a strong writer and communicator, with outstanding organizational skills, and who is an avid learner. We are keen to remain technical experts, while pushing creative boundaries to chart new territory in our projects and expertise. This position will include research, public engagement, mapping and GIS analysis, drafting and editing of documents, use of common technology tools, general planning responsibilities, and fieldwork.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in planning or a related field

Participation in professional organizations and certification programs such as APA, ULI, etc. (AICP is preferable, but not required)

Ability to prepare planning documents, including:
Primary research including community engagement, interviews, and surveys
Demographic and socioeconomic data analysis and synthesis
Researching best practices in planning
Writing and editing plan documents

Creation of graphically compelling and legible maps and analyses using ArcGIS

Ability to create public engagement materials for site visits, public meetings, focus groups, and community workshops

Effective communication skills, exemplary organizational skills, and ability to consistently team with co-workers, partners, clients, and the public

Experience with common software tools: Microsoft products, ArcGIS, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.

Employees work on collaborative teams both virtually and in our beautiful urban office near downtown Albuquerque, on Route 66. In-state travel opportunities exist, allowing for on-site engagement with projects and clients. These engagements can flex from standard hours, but we aim to coordinate in advance and provide coverage across the team. We will consider out-of-state candidates to work remotely or for relocation. In the case of relocation, benefits may be provided. Preference may be given to candidates who can work regularly at the Albuquerque office.
